Bringing a Common Sense Approach to Government!

·• TRUST IN GOVERNMENT
I am one of the few candidates that have
NOT and will NOT use contributions from Lobbyists and PACs, and I will NOT be influenced by special interests

·• TAXES & GOVERNMENT SPENDING
I am committed to true tax reform, which requires a reduction in wasteful government spending and taxes that respect a Citizens ability to pay. I support the elimination of property taxes and a change towards a progressive income tax

·• SOUTH SHORE EXTENSION
The building of an extension for the South Shore rail road is vital to the future of economic development and job creation in Northwest Indiana. Instead of tax increases to fund the construction of a project like this, I will propose that the State commit funds from the Toll Road sale to match the Federal funds obtained by Rep Pete Visclosky

·• ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & JOB CREATION
I am committed to supporting Indiana businesses and working to attract new businesses that offer more living wage jobs

·• EDUCATING HOOSIERS
I am committed to State support of our public education system

·• AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE
I will commit to finding affordable health
care options for Hoosiers

·• PROTECTING STATE ASSETS
I will oppose any further sale of State assets, such as the Indiana Toll Road, to private and out of state companies. The sale (lease) of the Indiana Toll Road was a mistake that we are already paying for in Northwest Indiana

Trust:  Candidates can debate the specific issues all day but ultimately it is most important that we trust that our representative has our concerns as citizens and taxpayers as a priority and not the interests of “down state” and “out of state” lobbyists.  The majority of citizens and taxpayers are not represented by political action committees (PAC’s) and need a representative they can trust to speak up for their interests in the State Legislature.  Ask any of the other candidates if they have received contributions directly from PAC’s, special interests or lobbyists.  You will find that many of the PAC’s are from Indianapolis, Washington D.C. and other states and it is unclear what they stand for or what they want.   I have not, will not and do not plan to use contributions from PAC’s, special interests and lobbyists.

Taxes: Citizen/taxpayers need a representative that will be honest with them about “tax reform”.  The truth is that we cannot achieve tax reform if government spending continues to escalate.  Further, shifting the tax burden from one tax (property tax) to other taxes (sales tax and higher local taxes) is not tax reform.  Real tax relief for the majority of us requires lower government spending and then a shift to a tax structure where all taxes combined are progressive and reflect a taxpayer’s ability to pay.

line

Economic Development: Indiana families and businesses need a representative committed to economic growth and policies that will help existing businesses and attract new businesses to Indiana.  Indiana has stagnated over the last several years and has lost 43,800 jobs in just the last twelve months.  Indiana has become a leader in mortgage foreclosures, personal bankruptcies, low wage levels and high unemployment.  We have to focus on a fair tax policy for families and business, create new programs for affordable health care, reform education to provide skilled employees, and advance our technology infrastructure.

line

Health Care: We need a representative that will make affordable health care for everyone a priority.  Indiana’s health care costs are presently higher than the national average.  Many businesses cannot afford to provide health insurance and employees cannot pay the high premiums.  We need to advance programs for pooling insurance among individuals and businesses to bring down the cost of premiums.  Preventative care coverage should be a major part of any program as it is less expensive to diagnose and treat health problems early than to wait until an individual is ill and requires extraordinary treatment.
